Senior Electrical Engineer– Water&Wastewater
Full‑time, Hybrid location: Markham, ON – 105 Commerce Valley, Canada. Compensation: CAD 110,000 – 160,000 per year. Responsibilities
Develop various types of reports including technical memoranda, design development documents, facility electrical system assessments, and design‑build/assist scope of work documents. Prepare electrical design reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates throughout the primary design and detailed design stages.Implement design concepts by producing drawings for detailed MV and LV power distributions, process equipment control schematics, lighting and controls, fire alarms, and specialty low‑voltage rough‑ins (e.g., telecommunication, intrusion control, security, CCTV, door access controls). Provide technical and administrative support through all project phases.Conduct site inspections to obtain field As‑Built data and conditions. Work with electrical equipment manufacturers and suppliers to obtain necessary industrial design data and incorporate it into design drawings and specifications. Ensure design conforms with all applicable codes and standards.Attend various project stage meetings involving clients, consultants, and contractors. Provide technical support to project managers and respond to technical queries. Coordinate with local hydro utility service suppliers for incoming power services. Manage construction administration responsibilities: attend site inspections, meetings, and reviews; produce reports; review shop drawings and answer Contractor RFIs; prepare SI and CCN documents; review progress billing; supervise FAT and SAT; and commission electrical systems.Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and registration as a Qualified Engineer in Ontario. A minimum of six (6) years of experience in the engineering consulting industry, preferably in water and wastewater infrastructure engineering. Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.Preferred Qualifications
Ten (10) or more years of experience in the engineering consulting industry, preferably in water and wastewater infrastructure engineering. Familiarity with OESC, OBC, IEEE, NFPA, ASHRAE, CSA, and other industry standards and codes. Experience leading electrical design as an electrical lead engineer on water and wastewater projects.Experience designing electrical power systems including MV and LV distribution, plant substations with standby generators or cogenerators, switchgear breaker operation and control schematics, protection relay I/O wiring diagrams, substation transformer protection and monitoring, and MV/LV motor control schematics incorporating VFDs or soft starters for process and HVAC systems as per PCN requirements.Knowledge of power analysis tools such as SKM and/or ETAP, and experience performing system studies including Short Circuit and Protection Coordination, Arc‑Flash Hazard Analysis, Harmonic studies, and Load‑Flow studies. Proficient use of computers for engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing.Ability to provide guidance and support to others within the Electrical team. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with sound judgment. Additional certifications such as PMP, LEED, etc. are a bonus. Experience with instrumentation and control system design is a plus. Experience with IES energy modeling tools is desirable.Some project management experience and training are desired.
