Description
Primary Role
The Electrical Systems Technologist develops electrical documentation and integration designs that support the distribution of power and data within equipment and furniture systems. The role focuses on defining electrical interconnections between computing hardware, displays, control systems, motors, and peripheral devices.Key Responsibilities
Electrical System Documentation
Develop electrical line diagrams illustrating power distribution and signal pathways within integrated equipment systems. Create interconnect diagrams showing electrical connections between hardware components such as:
PCs and computing equipment Displays and monitors Control boxes and controllers Lift motors and actuators Network devices Peripheral devices
Document routing and termination points for power, data, and control cabling. Electrical Integration and Interconnect Design
Define electrical interconnection architecture between system components. Specify appropriate connectors, cables, adapters, and interface hardware. Support integration of multiple signal types including AC and DC power, Ethernet networking, USB, DisplayPort/HDMI, Serial, and control signals. Coordinate cable routing strategies with mechanical design teams to ensure proper cable management, accessibility, and serviceability.Manufacturing Documentation
Create fabrication‑level Bills of Materials (BOMs) for electrical components and cable assemblies. Develop cable schedules and connector lists supporting system assembly. Assist in standardizing cable kits and harnesses used in production. Provide documentation required for manufacturing, installation, and fieldservice.Grounding and Bonding Integration
Define and document grounding and bonding strategies for integrated equipment containing electrical components. Identify protective earth (PE) connections between equipment such as equipment frames/enclosures, control boxes, power distribution devices, and electronic hardware. Ensure continuity of grounding paths across assemblies and cable harnesses.Document grounding points, grounding conductors, and bonding hardware in electrical diagrams and BOMs. Electrical Safety and Compliance Awareness
Develop electrical documentation that aligns with applicable safety and regulatory practices including CSA, UL, and CE. Incorporate safe design practices related to grounding and protective earth connections, bonding of conductive structures, separation of power and signal wiring, and safe routing and protection of electrical conductors.Work with engineering and compliance teams to support documentation required for regulatory review and product certification. Relationships
Work closely with mechanical designers to coordinate electrical integration within physical assemblies. Support engineering teams during product development and prototyping. Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure components are standardized and available. Assist with troubleshooting electrical integration issues during prototype builds and production.Education / Experience
Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline. 3–8 years of experience in electrical systems documentation, equipment integration, product development, or manufacturing support. Competencies Required
Experience producing electrical diagrams and system schematics. Knowledge of power distribution and signal interconnections. Experience creating manufacturing BOMs and cable documentation. Familiarity with electrical connectors, cable types, and interface standards. Understanding of grounding and bonding principles for electrical systems.Experience with:
Electrical CAD or schematic tools PLM/BOM management systems Microsoft Office suite
Desired Behaviors
Make fact‑based decisions using actual data. Leaders who are visible, accessible, and provide coaching to encourage lifelong training and learning. Foster teamwork and functional diversity to achieve the best solutions. Employees who take ownership, speak up immediately, respond quickly, and think likean owner.Drive continuous improvement through personal initiative and innovation. Learn from failures in a positive, structured way, focusing on process improvements moving forward. Clearly define goals and objectives through KPIs consistent with company‑wide priorities. Achieve results by consistently meeting commitments.Focus on what is key to our customers (internal or external). Develop a culture celebrating successes, customer wins, improvements, and demonstrated good behavior. Working Environment / Location
