Electrical Designer (L4)
WESCAM, a division of L3Harris Technologies, develops advanced optical sensor and targeting systems for defense and national security. Electrical engineers in this role architect, design, develop, modify, evaluate and integrate electronic equipment, parts, components or integrated circuitry for complex, high‑performance hardware systems.Responsibilities
Analyze electrical requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints. Use high‑level programming languages to configure programmable logic devices. Analyze equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests and evaluate results. Select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.Generate hardware artifacts including requirements, schematics, BOMs, PCB design and fabrication documentation. Participate in providing, estimating and managing project tasks with project team members. Schedule, conduct or actively participate in technical design reviews to ensure design integrity.Provide technical guidance to team members and mentorship to new hires and junior Electrical Engineers. Support the development and maintenance of engineering design practices, processes and standards. Provide required metrics, reports and performance measures to the Manager. Troubleshoot technical problems on production and customer equipment.Provide technical support to other areas of the organization including Manufacturing Engineering, Bids and Proposals, and Marketing. Develop a strong presence across engineering and other areas of the business to maximize collaboration and synergy in an effort to meet project goals. Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by the Manager.Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience, OR graduate Degree and minimum 4 years of prior related experience. Meets the Controlled Goods Registration Program and eligible for a Canadian government security clearance (NATO Secret). Knowledge of contemporary CAD, simulation and analysis tools (SI Wave, Hyperlinx, PSpice, Matlab).Broad knowledge of electronic components, including Xilinx FPGAs. Knowledge of military and industry standards (MIL‑STD 704, 461 and 1275). Experience in design, implementation and validation of complex electrical subsystems and products. Practical knowledge of circuit card and wiring harness development and manufacturing processes.Skilled at debugging and testing systems. For applicants with disabilities, accommodations will be provided. Background checks, Controlled Goods Program registration and positive security assessment required. Some positions may require a government of Canada“Reliability” status and/or Level 2 (Secret) security clearance.Pre‑employment substance abuse testing may be required where applicable.
