Market Development Projects Manager– CMP Group, Global R&D The Market Development Projects Manager is responsible for identifying and engaging new business opportunities, new product development needs, and innovative steel solutions to keep sheet steel products competitive. The role focuses on building strong relationships with construction and manufacturing customers throughout North America, engaging industry through trade associations, and leading technical support activities that add value for both ArcelorMittal and its customers.
Accountabilities
Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of ArcelorMittal products and recommend solutions that match customer needs.
Analyze market trends, forecast customer product requirements, and propose projects and priorities for new product development or global R&D.
Participate in new solutions development and commercialization to create profitable business opportunities aligned with the North America strategic plan.
Identify novel technologies organization‑wide, pilot transfer, and drive commercialization locally.
Obtain technical approvals from customers for commercial supply, ensuring alignment with commercial group needs and recommending necessary qualification procedures.
Analyze customer products and processes, recommend cost‑saving or improvement opportunities, and lead teams of subject matter experts where appropriate.
Stay informed on regulatory codes, standards, and specifications; negotiate changes to uphold product profitability.
Participate in trade association and regulatory agency activities to strengthen steel as a viable material choice.
Provide local expertise of Global R&D application technologies and facilitate adoption by customers.
Determine value creation for projects to support commercial contract negotiations.
Initiate customer contacts and respond to inquiries (technical seminars, material characteristics, testing, etc.) to help achieve a #1 technical rating.
Contribute to the North American Customer Strategy in collaboration with Sales and Marketing to optimize business outcomes.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to health and safety practices in all work activities.
Knowledge, Skills&Abilities
Deep understanding of steel products and manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of customer processes: design, forming, joining, and painting.
Familiarity with market and industry specifications and competitive materials.
Strong engineering, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal, relationship‑building, and communication skills.
Initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Negotiation skills and strong organizational capabilities.
Teamworking and adaptability to change.
Education&Accreditation
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (metallurgy, materials, civil, mechanical, or chemical is required).
Advanced degree (MSc, PhD) in a related field is an asset.
Minimum six years of relevant industrial experience.
Work Environment
Office setting with eligibility for remote work per company policy.
Occasional site visits to North America plants, laboratories, and customer manufacturing facilities.
Infrequent travel to the United States.
Total Rewards Salary range: $102,000– $128,000, dependent on qualifications and experience. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes a variable pay component, employer‑funded retirement savings, fully paid group benefits, and wellness initiatives. The new employee immediately becomes eligible for employeebonus, defined contribution pension, competitive vacation allowances, and health and dental benefits with employer‑paid premiums. Additional benefits at two years of service include profit sharing.
