Athabasca Tribal Council is looking for a Band Designate in Fort McMurray or Edmonton. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring Indigenous children in care maintain their connection to culture and community.
In this full-time position, you will work under the Supervisor of Kinship/Foster Care, providing culturally grounded support to Indigenous youth. Your responsibilities will include mentoring caregivers, promoting cultural events, and engaging in legal processes that uphold family connections. Collaborating closely with First Nations, you will advocate for children, ensuring their cultural needs are met in every decision.
Key Responsibilities:• Foster relationships with children in care • Mentor caregivers on cultural integration • Coordinate access to community and cultural events • Support land-based activities and ceremonies • Maintain accurate records on cultural and legal matters
Requirements:• Degree in a relevant field preferred • Experience within Indigenous communities is essential • Proficiency in managing a diverse caseload • Knowledge of Indigenous languages is beneficial • Clear criminal record check and driver’s license required
