The Manager, Occupational Safety is accountable for the performance and results of the Occupational Safety team. The role ensures administration of plant‑wide safety processes, emergency response planning, and compliance with regulations, with consistency in a timely manner. The role closely partners with Health&Safety leadership to address complex general and occupational safety issues and collaborates with various departments. The role supervises the maintenance of accurate documentation, investigation administration, inspections, and root cause analyses. The role has expertise in interpreting corporate health and Safety policies, safety regulations, and best practices.

In addition, the manager will supervise the entire Windsor Site's Safety Function and two Safety Engineers (one at WEP and one at EEP).

Responsibilities Primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

Interprets and administers company policies and conducts programs related to risk assessment, hazard identification, incident investigations, inspections, audits, safety culture and engagement to prevent accidents and hazards at the workplace.

Manages plant and facility‑wide safety processes and initiatives, including the company’s Safety Operating System (SOS), emergency response planning and training, and off‑standard approvals, ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and local safety laws, regulations, and corporate policies.

Distributes and assigns tasks to the regional and facility Occupational Safety team, serves as a primary point of contact for inspections and audits, reviews new equipment for safety concerns, develops activity hazard analysis, completes preventive maintenance procedures, and guides the team on accident prevention plans and associated processes.

Develops and monitors KPIs for tracking safety incidents, injury statistics, corrective actions, training hours, and resolution times, utilizes Kaizen for continuous improvement, develops internal reports for senior management, and presents trends and improvement opportunities.

Leads the administration of department‑specific ergonomics training, general and fire safety trainings, machinery and equipment safety trainings, energy control and power lockout, root cause analysis, new hire orientation, and management safety training, and provides guidance and support to managers on safety‑related queries.

Communicates effectively with statutory authorities, regulatory bodies, and corporate representatives, resolves safety issues and risks identified by other functions and external auditors, and coordinates with stakeholders to design precautionary measures and develop facility/plant specific safety programs.

Participates in the delivery of global, regional, and facility Occupational Safety communication, standards, and practices related to occupational safety, encouraging the adoption of Corporate Health and Safety practices.

Reviews and updates Occupational Safety policies to ensure compliance with relevant laws and corporate safety policies, and enforces them consistently.

Performs talent management responsibilities including performance management, professional development, succession planning, disciplinary action, terminations, recruitment, and pay decisions.

Qualifications Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health&Safety, Safety/Health Sciences, or a related discipline. Proof of degree completion is required. If the degree was obtained from a school outside of Canada, an Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency is also required.

Experience:

Minimum 8 years of work experience in Occupational Safety or a related field.

Involves frequent lifting of more than 10 to 25 pounds, walking or standing, moderate noise levels, and varying outside temperatures.

Demonstrated leadership skills.

Master’s Degree in Occupational Health&Safety, Safety/Health Sciences, or a related discipline.

Experience:

Experience in the automotive industry.

Experience in a union environment.

Certified Safety Professional.
