Manager, Safety and Security University Infrastructure– Ayamdigut (Whitehorse) Campus
Permanent, Full‑time – 37.5 hours weekly
Salary: $54.96– $65.43 per hour

Position Summary Yukon University is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager, Safety and Security Services to lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of all campus safety and security operations. Reporting to the Director of University Infrastructure, this role is central to fostering a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities The Manager, Safety and Security leads and supervises Safety and Security Officers in a 24/7 operational environment, overseeing recruitment, training, scheduling, performance management, and disciplinary processes. The role is responsible for managing departmental systems, including the website, incident reporting system, and annual operating budget. It develops, implements, and maintains safety and security policies, procedures, and emergency preparedness plans in collaboration with Occupational Health&Safety.
In addition, the Manager oversees and continuously improves security systems such as CCTV surveillance, access control, alarms, workforce management tools, and emergency communication systems. The role works closely with Ayamdigut and community campuses to assess safety and security needs, coordinate crime prevention and personal safety programs, and support staff in applying procedures and protocols. It also conducts investigations and supports cross‑departmental inquiries as required, and designs, implements, and manages systems related to access to University property.
Leadership&Accountability The Manager, Safety and Security Services provides direct leadership to all permanent and casual Safety and Security Officers, ensuring effective team performance and a high standard of service delivery. The role is accountable for managing the department’s operating budget and contributing to capital planning within approved financial authority guidelines. It promotes a proactive culture of safety and security across the University community and supports the University’s commitment to Reconciliation.
Education&Knowledge
College diploma in Protection&Security or a related field
Strong knowledge of safety/security protocols, legislation, and risk management practices
Familiarity with emergency preparedness, fire protection systems, CCTV, and access control systems
Proficiency in MS Office and integrated database systems
Understanding of budgeting, program management, and investigation techniques
Skills&Abilities
Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage teams
Strong conflict resolution and de‑escalation skills
Effective decision‑making, especially in emergency situations
Excellent problem‑solving and organizational abilities
Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Experience Minimum 3 years of experience in a safety and security leadership role.
Working Conditions
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions
Availability to respond to emergencies after hours if required
Capability to work independently and in high‑stress or potentially hazardous situations
Ability to lift up to 40 kg
