Who are you? You are an emerging Learning Designer with experience in supporting Design Teams to create engaging learning activities and compelling course content through the process of working with SMEs and other project team members. You enjoy applying tested instructional design theories, practice and methods and are able to articulate instructional end goals and work with experts to create content that engages learners to successfully achieve learning objectives.
What’s the Job? As a Junior Learning Designer, you will contribute to the design and development of impactful, results‑driven training systems. In our flexible, remote workplace, you will report to the Director of Delivery and create with guidance from the Director of Design and other Learning Designers. You will collaborate with a team that may include Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Learning Designers, Project Managers, and Artists.
As a developing Learning Designer, you will assist in the production of instructional materials under partial supervision. You will also collaborate with more senior Learning Designers to evaluate and define the characteristics of a learner and learning strategies. Additionally, you will be expected to collaborate to clarify learner objectives and training activities. With supervision, you should be able to produce lessons, educational materials and guides in accordance with the development guidelines set by our clients.
What will you do?
Support the Learning Design Team to meet our client’s training needs
Collaborate with other Learning Designers, Art team and SMEs to:
Design appropriate lessons
Get to know learners and their characteristics, the tasks of a position, and what successful performance of these tasks looks like
Work with the client and SMEs to identify resources for developing learning materials
Support clients in understanding the best media and technologies to meet training needs
Break down complex information into an engaging and easy to understand format:
Create storyboards for eLearning courses, according to instructional design principles
Examine, and review for clear and consistent delivery
Produce and publish media‑rich, responsive content:
Create interactions and assemble course content using eLearning software
Support testing of Distributed Learning packages in Learning Management Systems (LMS) and assess effectiveness, including SCORM/xAPI reporting
Work with other Learning Designers to grow and enhance your discipline expertise and best practices
Qualifications / Skills
Minimum 1 year experience working in the area of educational technology and adult learning
Some demonstrable practical experience designing effective online, blended and/or distance learning experiences
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate with colleagues and clients with confidence, clarity, transparency and passion
Ability to work independently with supervision on longer term projects as well as in small cross‑functional, task‑oriented teams on short term goals
An inclusive and collaborative approach to work in a diverse, multi‑disciplinary team
Familiarity with instructional design principles and eLearning technologies
Proficiency in content authoring tools
Some experience with multimedia and graphics software
Education
Bachelor’s degree or college diploma (education, adult learning, distance learning or related an asset)

Team members are required to be available for team building and collaboration during core operating hours of 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Pacific Time. Outside of core working hours, we offer flexibility to support work‑life balance. Although our HQ is in Victoria, BC we are open to hiring candidates from nearly anywhere in Canada. At this time, we do not have the infrastructure to support hiring candidates from Quebec or to hire/support working internationally.
