Reporting to the Property Manager, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure the proper upkeep and functionality of our residential properties including building security, minor building repairs and ground maintenance, while ensuring the society is represented in a professional, responsible, and respectful way.This position offers variety and flexibility, and is based out of two locations: our administrative campus in Saanich and our downtown Victoria site. Routinely inspect and monitor the property including underground parking for maintenance status and suspicious activities and maintains a log Examine and record items requiring maintenance, reporting all major maintenance issues to the Property Manager. Perform turnover duties and minor maintenance and repair duties as directed, including plumbing carpentry and painting.Repair and replace defective equipment, fixtures and appliances. Monitor contractor activities while onsite. Coordinate and communicate with contractors, monitor activities while onsite and verify that work is completed as requested. Maintains accurate supplies, equipment, and building systems inventory.Prepares and completes status reports, forms, and daily task logs. Assist tenants with pest control, including providing information as per Society protocols. Participate in an on‑call rotation to respond to after‑hours maintenance issues, as required. Maintains current knowledge of relevant residential tenancy legislation and BC Housing standards as applicable to the role.Attend team meetings and other meetings as required. Perform other related duties as assigned. Our ideal Maintenance Worker will bring the following:
Previous building maintenance or related experience Current first Aid– Level 1 considered an asset Experience working with vulnerable populations an asset Ability to use basic computer applications to support day‑to‑day work tasks Working knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act an assetThese Skills and Abilities will help you thrive:
Working knowledge of minor maintenance duties, maintaining equipment inventory, and arranging for servicing when needed including Health and Safety regulations/protocols and WHIMIS principles Demonstrated sound judgement with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with an ability to work cooperatively with tenants, staff, and contractorsDemonstrated organizational and problem‑solving skills, including a strong attention to detail. Self‑motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision A team player with a cooperative approach to achieving goals and objectives with various members of staff, vendors, and community agencies.Additional Requirements
Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable, appropriately insured vehicle are required Criminal Record Check through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General prior to hiring is required Sufficient physical strength and stamina to perform the standard duties We are committed to cultivating an inclusive, fair, equitable and diverse culture and look forward to welcoming applicants with their unique strengths to our team.
