Senior Electrical Engineer– Utilities&Substations, Vancouver

Our client, an established public utility employer in British Columbia, is seeking a Senior Engineer (E4 level) to lead and coordinate multi-discipline design teams for medium-to-large-scale power infrastructure projects .

In this role, you will oversee the full project lifecycle—from conceptual design through testing and commissioning—with a primary focus on substations, transmission lines, and protection&control systems.

This is a 1 year contract to start - hybrid in Vancouver with potential to extend.

What You’ll Do

Develop safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgment to develop designs, analyze and resolve problems, and interpret engineering specifications for medium-complexity projects and operations.

Assist project or operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing changes in plans, recommending contractor payments, preparing progress reports, and coordinating schedules.

Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems by conducting independent studies, exercising judgment in selecting/interpreting information, and recommending safe designs.

Participate in the engineering practice by contributing to the development of technical standards, providing guidance and advice to other engineering professionals, and making critical design decisions.

What You Bring

A degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering and registered (or eligible for immediate registration) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC).

A minimum of 8 years of progressive and comprehensive engineering experience, with a primary focus in substations, transmission lines, or protection and control preferred.

Full project life cycle experience, from conceptual design through to testing and commissioning, is considered a strong asset.

A minimum of 2 years of experience leading and coordinating multi-discipline design on medium to large scale utility or infrastructure projects.

Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate and influence various internal teams and external delivery partners.

Excellent understanding of Project Management processes and experience managing Owner’s reviews of external engineering work.

Construction site experience on large projects (hydroelectric stations, substations, or transmission lines) is a definite asset.
