Since 2009, Gowest Gold has expanded its land holdings within to over 120 square kilometres in the prolific Timmins gold camp. Our properties are strategically positioned along key geological structures, including the underexplored Pipestone Fault, associated with the gold-rich Porcupine-Destor Fault system, which has produced over 145 million ounces of gold across the Abitibi Greenstone Belt.

Position Summary Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Chief Production Geologist will provide strategic leadership in resource development while overseeing all aspects of underground geological operations. This role is critical to optimizing ore extraction, ensuring the effective management of narrow vein gold deposits, and driving the success of the mining operation.

Duties&Responsibilities

Champion a strong safety culture by taking personal accountability for health and safety, ensuring targeted safety objectives and the site Safety Strategy are consistently met.

Engage employees in safe work practices, ensuring they are properly trained, fully understand their obligations, and are capable of performing their roles.

Collaborate effectively with the Joint Health&Safety Committee (JH&SC), demonstrating integrity, ethics, and respect at all times.

Ensure compliance with the O.H.S.A., mine standards, and site operating procedures, while proactively managing non-standard conditions.

Uphold all Environmental, Occupational Health, and Industrial Hygiene obligations within the geology department.

Lead and manage the mine geology department, providing strategic oversight for production.

Direct and mentor a team of geologists and technicians, including drill rig management, core logging, QA/QC, and grade control activities.

Oversee grade control programs, including drift and stope sampling, dilution control, and reconciliation of production grades.

Manage all underground resource data, ensuring accuracy and integrity of information.

Plan, implement, and oversee infill and definition drilling programs from underground.

Deliver ongoing resource interpretation and modelling, providing critical input to mine planning and operational decision-making.

Manage the underground production assay process with third‑party labs.

Build and strengthen the geology team through a combination of existing staff development and new hires.

Foster clear and effective communication both upward to senior management and downward to the geology team.

Recognize and recommend outstanding employees for growth opportunities, while actively coaching and mentoring team members to reach their full potential.

Collaborate with employees, supervisors, and management to maintain positive labor relations, respecting individual interests and commitments.

Develop and deliver timely daily, weekly, and monthly reports for executive management on underground geology, production, and reconciliations.

Identify, prioritize, and implement improvement initiatives within the geology function.

Actively participate in personal and professional development, engaging in relevant training programs.

All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Geology (or equivalent Earth Sciences discipline).

Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.).

Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in geology, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

Previous experience as a Chief Geologist, or equivalent senior geology leadership position, is considered an asset.

Extensive expertise in underground mining geology, with a strong understanding of narrow vein gold deposits.

Proven ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively.

Proficiency in geological and mining software applications, including databases, Deswik, Datamine, Surpac, Vulcan, Minesight, GEMS, and CAD programs.

Comprehensive knowledge of resource estimation processes and best practices.

Strong financial acumen with experience in budget development and management.

Additional Information

The role is located in Timmins, Ontario, Canada.

The ideal candidate for the role will work a schedule of 4 days on and 3 off, 10-hour days. Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours, and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
