As the Volunteer Coordinator, you are the heart of our volunteer community. You will be responsible for building, supporting, and nurturing our team of dedicated volunteers, ensuring they are equipped and motivated to advance SBE’s mission. By managing recruitment, training, and engagement, you will directly impact our capacity to deliver programs and events that create safer communities.

Key Responsibilities 1. Volunteer Recruitment&Onboarding

Collaborate with the Executive Director to identify volunteer needs for programs and events.

Create volunteer postings and promote opportunities through various channels.

Screen applicants and manage the onboarding process, including orientations and training sessions.

2. Volunteer Engagement&Support

Act as the main point of contact for volunteers, fostering a supportive and inclusive community through regular check‑in and an open‑door policy.

Maintain regular communication to keep volunteers informed and connected.

Implement volunteer recognition and appreciation initiatives to boost morale and retention.

Address volunteer questions, concerns, and feedback with care and professionalism.

3. Scheduling&Coordination

Develop and manage volunteer schedules for events, campaigns, and ongoing programs.

Match volunteers to roles based on their skills, interests, and availability.

Ensure all volunteers are clear on their roles and have the necessary resources before an event.

4. Administration&Impact Tracking

Maintain the volunteer database, tracking hours, contact information, and skills.

Compile reports on volunteer impact for the Executive Director, grants, and newsletters.

Assist in updating volunteer manuals, role descriptions, and training materials.

What You Bring (Qualifications&Experience)

Experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, HR, or a related role.

Exceptional people skills with the ability to build rapport and manage diverse relationships.

Strong organizational and administrative abilities; comfortable managing schedules and data.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); experience with a CRM or volunteer platform is a plus.

A valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle for occasional event support or in‑person meetings in the Edmonton area.

Logistics

Need to be based in Edmonton or surrounding area.

Must be able to commit to a one‑year term (preferably two) and attend events in Edmonton or surrounding areas.

Must be willing to volunteer the occasional evening and weekend for events.

Time Commitment:15+ hours per month (varies)
