Locum Consultant Cardiology, Saskatoon

We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

Shift pattern : 40 hours per week over 7 days with an on‑call commitment.

Duration : Fixed term post for 6 months with the option to extend.

Applications are invited for this Locum Consultant post. Applicants must have MRCP, full GMC registration and a licence to practise. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT in Cardiology or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview. Dual accreditation in GIM would be preferred. Non‑UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training. The locum period is 6 months, with a start date in August 2026 possible, particularly for final‑year trainees due to CCT in July 2026.

The successful candidate will be responsible, along with colleagues, for the care of in‑patients and out‑patients with a range of cardiology conditions, and will be expected to provide a full range of consultant services as agreed with the post holder, and determined by specialty and sub‑specialty service demand. The candidate would also be able to develop a sub‑specialty interest in echocardiography, inherited cardiac conditions or cardiac MRI. The out‑of‑hours and weekend on‑call commitment will be 1 in 11 covering the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The weekday commitment to the CCU will be 1 week in 18 and for the Cardiology ward 1 week in 12 (consultant‑of‑the‑week model). It is expected that the successful candidate will provide two general Cardiology clinics per week and contribute to the vetting of GP referrals.

The post provides all full‑time consultants with 10 PA job plans consisting of 8 PAs in Direct Clinical Care (DCC), one core Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) for annual appraisal and subsequent revalidation as determined by the General Medical Council (GMC), and a potential third SPA that may be allocated for otherdepartmental responsibilities. Some flexibility in timing of sessions, taking into account public holidays, prospective cover in colleagues’ absence, and occurrence of hot activity, will be required.
