Clinical Engineer– Specialist Clinical Technologist Department of Clinical Physics and Bio-Engineering – Medical Equipment Management
As part of a team of clinical engineer technologists based in the Surgical Team within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, you will support the full lifecycle of medical equipment, from commissioning and maintenance to fault diagnosis and decommissioning. Your role will involve working with a wide range of specialist and highly complex medical devices, requiring both on‑site and in‑house training.
Duration, Location and Working Pattern
Location based in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Surgical Section
Permanent Contract
Full‑time position (36 hours per week)
Shift pattern: Monday to Friday, 7.2 hours per day
Key Responsibilities
Commission new medical devices, ensuring safe acceptance and installation.
Perform scheduled maintenance and quality‑assurance testing in line with the Asset Management System.
Diagnose faults on a broad range of equipment using systematic methods and diagnostic tools, liaising with manufacturers when required.
De‑commission equipment following standard operating procedures.
Conduct electrical safety testing and visual inspections to comply with health and safety regulations.
Investigate safety alerts and field safety notices, developing responses and completing necessary actions.
Lead technical evaluations for equipment involved in incidents and produce reports to the Section or Technical Manager.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience
Engineering or Technology knowledge at SCQF Level 9 or equivalent.
Post‑graduate experience with medical equipment, e.g., attending manufacturer technical courses.
Experience in servicing, repairing and fault‑finding across a wide range of medical devices.
Understanding of the clinical, scientific and engineering principles of a broad range of medical devices.
Good organisational and communication skills.
