Description
Our client is a Canadian medical products manufacturer serving hospitals and healthcare facilities across a range of clinical environments. The company designs and manufactures equipment that supports caregivers and healthcare teams in settings where reliability, safety, usability, and compliance are essential. This is a product-focused environment where electronics, firmware, mechanical design, testing, quality, and production all intersect. For an Electronics Designer, it offers the chance to work on practical medical equipment that must be designed thoughtfully, tested thoroughly, and built with manufacturability in mind.Compensation
$85,000 to $95,000 per year, with bonus potential. Long-term disability PTO *The stated compensation range reflects the full scope of the role as currently structured and is provided in accordance with pay transparency requirements. Offers are determined based on relevant experience, demonstrated skills, internal equity and alignment with the role’s requirements. The upper end of the range is typically reserved for candidates who fully meet all requirements and qualifications outlined in this posting and the official job description. The Opportunity
This is a hands‑on electronics design role for someone who enjoys the full product development cycle: circuit design, PCB layout, prototyping, testing, debugging, compliance, manufacturability, and production support. The right person will be involved in digital circuit design, medical device accessories, firmware troubleshooting, automated test jig development, and collaboration with mechanical design engineering. It is a role with real technical breadth. The candidate will contribute to products from early design through production readiness, ensuring they meet performance, safety, quality, and compliance expectations. For someone with strong board‑level design experience, firmware knowledge, and comfort working in a regulated product environment, this offers a meaningful chance to apply both engineering discipline and practical problem‑solving. Position Description
The Electronics Designer will design and develop digital circuits used in mobile medical workstations and related medical device accessories, including schematic creation, PCB design, component selection, circuit simulation, firmware coding and debugging, design testing, and troubleshooting. They will work closely with PCB manufacturers during prototyping and production, helping move designs from concept to manufacturable product. As needed, they will design and build automated test jigs to support production testing and efficiency.A key part of the role involves testing designs for safety, performance, and compliance within the organization’s Quality Management System and following applicable design and development procedures, standards, and certification requirements, including industry standards and certification bodies such as UL, IEC, and other relevant compliance frameworks. They will collaborate with mechanical design engineering to support complete product development, provide technical assistance to production when manufacturability issues arise, and report on project progress while helping maintain timelines. The position is full‑time, permanent, with a hybrid work‑from‑home option. Some global travel may be required, estimated at approximately 10% to 20%.Experience
The ideal candidate will bring progressive experience in electronic design, board‑level design, and firmware or software development. Experience in consumer product design, medical product design, or another regulated product environment would be valuable. Strong candidates will likely have experience with designing digital circuits and electronic boards, creating schematicsand PCB layouts, working with PCB manufacturers through prototype and production stages, coding or debugging firmware, testing and validating electronic designs, designing automated test jigs, supporting compliance‑related testing, and helping resolve manufacturability issues in production.Qualifications
Practical requirements
5+ years of progressive experience in electronic design and electronic board design 3+ years of experience in software and firmware development Strong understanding of electronic circuits and circuit analysis Experience with RFID, Ethernet, and WiFi Solid foundation in AC-DC and DC-DC conversion techniquesSolid foundation in circuit protection and compliance testing requirements, including ESD, EFT, surge, EMC, and EMI Ability to test, debug, and troubleshoot designs Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with strong attention to detail Ability to manage pressure while maintaining project quality and timelinesTechnical assets
Experience with Altium Designer or similar PCB design tools Knowledge of PSpice, MATLAB, Python, Visual Studio, VS Code, TypeScript, SQL, and C# Knowledge of mechanical CAD packages Experience with consumer and medical product design Eng. license or eligibility for licensure Education
Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or an equivalent technical background is required.
