Your Opportunity As a Protective Services Officer (PSO), you will integrate with the clinical care team to directly improve patient and families’ experiences. You will need strong interpersonal and communication skills to promote collaboration, respect, and mitigate high‑stress situations. Your compassion and ability to relate to patients, visitors, and communities help de‑escalate conflict and create a positive, safe, diverse, and welcoming environment for all.

Description

Provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including violence monitoring, prevention and intervention.

Enforce applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes.

Conduct asset loss prevention and internal investigations.

Prepare court documents and secure evidence.

Perform risk assessment and hazard identification.

Carry out arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and act as a first responder to critical events.

Support facility departments on matters of security and safety practices.

Participate in reviewing and recommending policy.

Foster and maintain positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.

Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General.

Successful completion of the Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6‑week program).

Valid Class 5 (non‑GDL) Driver’s Licence.

Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minutes, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.

Additional Required Qualifications

Alberta Class 5 operator’s licence, or a provincial equivalent, with no more than four demerits and no charges or pending suspensions.

Eligibility for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public.

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of two years of related work experience OR a related degree or diploma in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology.

Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services.

Experience in a healthcare setting.

Community involvement or volunteering (unpaid positions).

Knowledge of or training in harm reduction, anti‑racism and Indigenous awareness.

Comfortable and experienced with public speaking.
