Position Summary The

Barn Crew

is a dual-purpose role responsible for maintaining a clean, safe environment while serving as the primary point of contact for exhibitors and guests regarding livestock bedding. This physically demanding, client-facing position balances manual labor—such as stall cleaning and manure management—with customer service tasks like the sale, tracking, and delivery of shavings. You ensure the comfort and safety of animals on-site while providing a professional experience for all facility guests.

Key Responsibilities 1. Sales&Customer Service

Frontline Contact:

Act as the primary contact for exhibitors and competitors, responding professionally to inquiries regarding shavings pricing, delivery, and general facility questions.

Transaction Management:

Process sales accurately and facilitate payment reconciliations according to established facility procedures.

Guest Assistance:

Help guests locate stalls and coordinate with the Barn Lead to resolve any special requests or concerns.

2. Shavings&Inventory Management

Delivery:

Distribute and deliver shavings bags to specific stalls as requested.

Inventory Control:

Fill and stack shavings bags to maintain stock levels, tracking daily sales versus remaining inventory to prevent shortages.

Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate logs of bags delivered versus bags sold.

3. Barn Operations&Maintenance

Stall Maintenance:

Perform daily stall cleaning, including waste removal and managing bedding levels.

Cleanliness:

Maintain barn aisles, wash racks, and common areas through sweeping and debris removal.

Waste Management:

Manage manure removal and disposal according to facility protocols.

Safety Monitoring:

Ensure waterers are functional and report any maintenance issues (e.g., broken latches, leaks) to the Facilities Lead or Barn Lead immediately.

4. Facility Support&Event Prep

Event Readiness:

Coordinate with the event team to "flip" stalls for new arrivals and assist with the setup and teardown of temporary stalling for large events.

Hazard Control:

Ensure all walkways and shavings delivery routes are kept clear of debris to provide a safe experience for both livestock and people.

Equipment Care:

Handle tools and equipment (shovels, carts, dollies) safely and return them to designated storage areas.

Physical Requirements&Qualifications

Manual Labor:

Ability to lift, carry, and stack items (up to 50 lbs) and perform repetitive tasks such as shoveling and raking for the duration of a shift.

Environment:

Must be comfortable working in a dusty, agricultural setting around horses and cattle in varying weather conditions.

Numeracy:

Basic math skills for handling sales transactions and reconciling inventory.

Communication:

Strong interpersonal skills with a "help-first" attitude, remaining calm and professional during high-traffic event periods.

Flexibility:

Available for shift work, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, aligned with the event calendar.
