Commercial Analyst We are currently seeking a Commercial Analyst to join our team. The role is a trainee position designed to prepare incumbents for future commercial sales/lending roles. Incumbents will spend approximately two years in this role and then move into a commercial sales/lending role once the required skill and experience level is achieved.
Responsibilities The Commercial Analyst provides administrative and analytical support to the commercial sales team and performs key tasks that support the underwriting process for new credit applications. Responsibilities include:
Financial Analysis: Complete analysis of financial statements, research industry reports, and analyze market data related to specific credit applications.
Loan Review and Security: Review offers of credit and loan security generated from the application tool, verify completeness and accuracy, review delinquency reports, and coordinate resolutions.
Loan Origination Process: Complete required paperwork for new credit applications, ensure supporting documentation is in place, forward to commercial experts for review, enter information into the loans origination system, create letter of credit requests, and manage progress draw worksheets for construction loans.
Risk Management: Perform annual reviews of commercial accounts and ensure all terms and conditions are satisfied, including visiting business premises when required.
Sales and Service: Identify cross‑selling opportunities, forward files to appropriate commercial banking advisors, address member/client concerns, establish and maintain relationships within the branch network, and support in‑branch and company‑wide campaigns.
Qualifications
College, trade, or tech school diploma (2 years) in a related field (required).
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (preferred).
Two years of sales and financial analysis experience or equivalent (required).
Previous knowledge of lending policies, procedures, products, and services (preferred).
Working knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory requirements influencing the granting and collection of commercial credit (preferred).
Proven knowledge and skills in financial statement analysis and credit risk management.
Proven ability to manage change and identify and act upon continuous improvement opportunities.
Strong work ethic and demonstrated resourcefulness in execution of daily activities.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially MS Excel and Word.
Demonstrated commitment to risk and risk ownership by adhering to policies and procedures.
