Data Analyst– Canada Summer Jobs Program (1 position)

Hours of Work:
Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week with limited evening and weekend requirements
Hourly Rate:
$20.00 per hour– Eligible for HOOPP
Position Reports to:
Interim Director, EPESI
Primary work location:
Oshawa with flexibility to work at other DCHC sites as required.

Organization Durham Community Health Centre (DCHC)
is a registered, charitable organization that provides integrated, accessible, and equitable community-based primary care, wellness services, and health education to Durham community members who face multiple barriers to their health and well-being.
DCHC also provides equity-based programs and services that focus on priority populations such as Indigenous, Black, the 2SLGBTQI Community, Newcomers to Canada, Seniors, and Unattached patients (i.e., those without a family doctor), to name a few. DCHC ensures Durham community members receive not only sick care, but preventive care as well.
At DCHC, we are a team-based interprofessional group of staff including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, counselors, dietitians, outreach workers, medical secretaries, and other administrative staff. We always place every client at the centre of our approach to care, based on their needs. We address these needs through integrated clinical and wellness care and health education.

Position Overview As a member of the EPESI team, the data analyst will contribute to data-literacy in the organization through providing advice and education to end-users and management on how to interpret and use data to produce information and make evidence informed decisions.
To be eligible for this position through the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, you must:
be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year or have completed a diploma or a degree
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
Key Responsibilities
Monitor, analyze, and track key performance indicators and conduct specific drill-down analyses as needed
Prepare reports for management, highlighting successes, challenges, and recommendations
In consultation with our internal IT resources, support DCHC’s EMR; as necessary – migration, implementation, monitoring/control and coordinate major changes and enhancements
Develop and maintain technical documentation
Identify opportunities for improvement with respect to routine reporting to increase efficiency and reduce manual work
Contribute to process standardization and tool development to support improvement
Ensure enterprise data quality and integrity by developing and implementing best practices; conduct data quality investigations and engage in continuous data quality improvements
Lead and/or support relevant stakeholder Quality Improvement and Performance activities, including coordinating and documenting meetings, agendas, work plans and deliverables, and facilitating discussions as required
Effectively deliver routine and ad hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders in an easily understandable format for the end use
Adhere to internal policies&procedures, including client/employee confidentiality protocols
Key Qualifications
Undergraduate Degree in applicable field (Health Informatics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Statistics, Math, Engineering, Computer Science, Science, etc.)
Two (2) or more years of relevant experience in decision support, information systems or data management preferably in hospital, community-based health care setting, or community not-for-profit environment
Working knowledge of database design, data management theory and processes
Strong aptitude for analysis and interpretation and visualization of complex data
Exceptional technical skills related to working with large data sets
Experience using database programs including fluency in the knowledge of EMRs such as Practice Solutions Suite (PSS)
Extensive experience with database report-writing tools such as Power BI, Crystal Reports, Cognos, JReport, SAS, Access, and SQL
Demonstrate ability to manipulate and analyze data using various software tools and to present information and express complex ideas clearly in an easily understood user-friendly manner to a target audience (non-technical)
Excellent problem recognition skills and ability to proactively achieve resolutions
Superior verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrate attention to detail in day-to-day work with a focus on quality of work, accuracy, and customer service
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and fluency with other Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, and SharePoint
Must be able to function with a high degree of independence and initiative
Demonstrate understanding of and commitment to DCHC’s mission, vision, and values
Knowledge of applicable legislative frameworks (Excellent Care for All Act, Quality of Care Information Protection Act, etc.)
Valid "G" Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
