Description
The Structural Detail Designer is responsible for 3D modeling and producing adequate production drawings to support production design at Vancouver Shipyards (VSY) in North Vancouver. The role will ensure that the detail design 3D model and production drawings are generated in accordance with VSY's standards, quality, and engineering processes, and that they are completed within the prescribed plans, schedules, and budgets.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on‑site based at 216 980 1st St West, North Vancouver.

What you’ll do

Creates and updates the 3D design model content in assigned areas of structural design within project schedule and budget, and in line with the design input: basic and functional design documents, class society rules and regulations, flag rules, and company and international standards.

Prepare structural manufacturing information for all stages of construction.

Liaise with functional engineering to resolve all outstanding design issues.

Provide technical support and resolution for structural issues from design to fabrication.

Communicate and report the plan and budget for delivering the work on time to team leaders.

Support production outputs to ensure the resulting work packages for manufacturing are aligned with VSY standards and processes.

Develop and review design drawings for fisheries, icebreaking, and naval replenishment vessels to achieve customer, Classification Society, and regulatory approval.

Support the Manager, Structural Detail Design by providing guidance to junior engineers, designers, or subcontractors in the areas of structural engineering and design.

What you’ll bring

Associate design degree, diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

4–6 years of relevant experience in detailed design in manufacturing or heavy industries.

Knowledge of marine structural design, including detailed knowledge of shipbuilding and production best practices.

Knowledge of the following ship types is considered a strong asset: research vessels, fishing vessels, icebreakers, naval auxiliary vessels.

Demonstrated effective communication across a variety of disciplines.

Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to produce and present clear detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.

Ability to work in Cadmatic Hull.

Demonstrated knowledge of Rhino, Navisworks, and e-Share.

Above‑average organization skills to maintain organization in a changing environment, multitask, and establish priorities.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.

Exercise sound judgment and make decisions consistent with essential job functions and corporate philosophy.

Advanced PC and network proficiency required– ability to troubleshoot network licenses, version control across all MS Office.

The estimated salary for this position is $90,000–$110,000. In determining final salary, Seanspan considers many factors including the successful candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive totalcompensation package.
