Co-op Product Designer - Mechanical . This position will work in Nanaimo, B.C.
Please note that this position is open to current students enrolled in a Canadian accredited university and co‑op program.
Dometic Marine’s headquarters are in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. The facility develops and manufactures hydraulic, electronic, and combustion‑based products.
As a
Co-op Product Designer - Mechanical
on the Vancouver team, you will be involved in a wide variety of tasks supporting administrative, engineering, and technical staff throughout the facility.
General Responsibilities
Lots of hands‑on opportunities: build prototypes or equipment; test products and components; analyze product performance; disassemble, inspect, and analyze tested components; design and optimize assembly processes and equipment; analyze machining data and develop mechanical and software tools to optimize production
Wide variety of tasks– usually 2-3 projects on the go at a time
Great supervision and mentorship but also get to work independently
Supportive engineering and technical staff throughout the facility
Great camaraderie among the co‑op students’ cohorts, as well as, within the engineers, technologists and designers
Often opportunities to do some of the following: design components or equipment with CREO; work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems; use high precision measurement equipment; program PLCs; analyze product performance using Labview/NI‑DAQ control systems or our data acquisition equipment
Experience in mechanical/electrical/software blend for both product design, and manufacturing&machining equipment designing along with its processes
Exposure to both worlds of product development and manufacturing processes since we do it all in one facility!
Perform mechanical design including solid modeling, prototype assembly and testing, tolerance analysis, and engineering analysis
Research and design concept solutions
Analyze functional performance for components, products and processes and help identify improvements

Skills&Requirements
Must be enrolled in an Engineering program at an accredited university
Solid problem solving and decision‑making abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Well‑developed organizational skills with the ability to manage a variety of tasks
General proficiency with MS Office programs including: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and Teams.
