As a Fire Alarm Designer here at Honeywell, you will play a crucial role in providing concrete fire alarm solutions based on systematic code analysis and customer specifications. You will be responsible for preparing design shop drawings, conducting site walks, and communicating technical concepts to internal and external customers. Your expertise in fire codes and standards will ensure the delivery of high-quality design solutions that meet user needs and business objectives. You will report directly to our Sr. Application Engineering Supervisor.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by ensuring the safety and security of buildings through effective fire alarm system engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Take full ownership of life safety/fire alarm system engineering end to end, providing concrete fire alarm solutions based on systematic code analysis and customer specifications.
Review contract plans, scope and specifications, MRs, survey information, sales sketches, estimates, and take-off sheets for opportunities and proposals, clearly define design scope and boundaries, establish the master plan, identify RFIs etc. prior to starting engineering.
Prepare design shop drawings, including field device layout, riser diagrams, equipment elevations, detailed wiring, point-to-point device wiring, logic diagrams, line loss calculations, battery calculations, BOM, cable schedules, etc.
Change management and containment.
Manage project engineering from conception through to completion, ensuring timelines and budgets, as well quality metrics are met.
Software programming for fire alarm, voice evacuation, mass notification, smoke control, releasing services etc.
Communicate technical concepts/solutions to internal and external customers, conduct site walks, accurately review customer specs, identify opportunities or risks and resources required to achieve results during the engineering cycle.
Prepare submittals per engineering standards, ensuring commitment dates are met, and review submittals with project teams to obtain hardware submittal approval.
Support Sales and Project Managers on surveys, application selection, layout of potential retrofit opportunities, and assessing customers' business objectives and strategies.
Professionally communicate in writing and verbally to account team, proposal team, and customers.
Advise and consult as a technical expert to sales and Project Managers to drive and implement short and long-term projects.
Manage personal backlog of projects and multitask to produce desired results in a deadline-driven environment.
Build positive and effective working relations with both internal customers (sales, PMs, techs) and external customers.
Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner, working in accordance with established HS&E requirements to ensure the protection of associates, the public, and the environment.
Must Have
Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related disciplines.
3 years of Electrical Engineering/Design experience in Fire Alarm Systems.
3 years of experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
3 years of experience with Fire Codes including IBC, IFC, NBC, NFC, NFPA 72, UL/ULC standards for Life Safety Systems.

Competencies in device layout and application, sizing of amplifiers, power supplies, panels, and batteries, and basic smoke control.

High competency in written and verbal communications.
