Overview Huawei Canada has an immediate co-op opening for a Researcher.
About the team The Human-Machine Interaction Lab unites global talents to redefine the relationship between humans and technology. Focused on innovation and user-centered design, the lab strives to advance human-computer interaction research. Our team includes researchers, engineers, and designers collaborating across disciplines to develop novel interactive systems, sensing technologies, wearable and IoT systems, human factors, computer vision, and multimodal interfaces. Through high-impact products and cutting-edge research, we aim to enhance user experiences and interactions with technology.
About the job
Assist in 3D modeling of mechanical components (e.g., in SolidWorks) and design electrical circuit layouts or PCBs.
Develop and debug code for industrial or collaborative robots, often utilizing ROS(2), Python, or C++.
Integrate sensors (e.g., machine vision, tactile), actuators, microcontrollers like Arduino into cohesive robotic platforms.
Prepare technical reports, assembly procedures, and bills of materials (BOMs) to support the transition from design to manufacturing.
The total target annual compensation
for this position ranges from $58,000 to $104,000 depending on education, experience, and demonstrated expertise.
Job requirements About the ideal candidate:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, and registered with the school’s co-op program.
Proficiency in Python/C++, 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks or AutoCAD).
Experience in modeling and controlling electromechanical systems, including Servo, Stepper, BLDC motors and FOC motor control is an asset.
Experience with embedded systems and microcontrollers.
Basic understanding of AI/Machine Learning applications in robotics.
Knowledge of control theory (e.g., PID, feedback loops) and dynamics.
Hands-on experience such as familiarity with lab tools, 3D printing, soldering, and basic machining/fabrication.
Strong problem-solving aptitude, technical communication, and the ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
