The opportunity We are currently looking for an Assistant Vice President for our Auto Claims team reporting to the VP of Claims. This role is a key contributor in the Claims organization, building networks and relationships across multiple lines of business and across enterprise-wide initiatives.
You will ensure that our customers receive the best experience in their time of need, driving improvements to the customer journey, claims handling processes, and financial outcomes for our business. In this role, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the day‑to‑day management of Auto Claims across Ontario and Quebec, with accountability for operational performance, risk management, governance, and service delivery to Aviva Canada’s customers and broker partners.

What You’ll Do
The use of data to understand how your people and the business unit perform and initiate improvement activity through to execution.
Working side‑by‑side with your team to understand your people’s capability, your unit’s performance, and the system in which you operate.
Making decisions using data and observations to identify performance blockers or barriers; leveraging insight and frontline expertise to improve overall performance and results.
Ensuring the Quality Assurance program is fit for purpose and used to identify performance management needs, training needs, and to ensure governance is effective.
Fully understanding operational risks, meeting compliance obligations, and measuring how the team meets those requirements.
Leading and overseeing financials focusing on indemnity reserves and spend for National Claims.
Supporting planning and leading implementation of enterprise and National Claims initiatives, ensuring delivery of line‑of‑business requirements.
Using systems and technology to enable streamlined processes and improve efficiency and productivity.
Being accountable for significant partner management.
Providing input to the VP of Claims for future strategic direction and change, including input into annual business planning and priority setting.
Monitoring team capacity, workload, and work assignment; finding opportunities to partner with other lines of business for shared staffing deployment as appropriate.
Continually developing engaged, talented colleagues prepared to grow and stretch into a variety of roles within Aviva.
Providing support and direction to the Claims Learning and Development Team and People Function, with respect to recruitment and capability of our people.
What You’ll Bring
You have a post‑secondary degree and a professional insurance qualification, such as CIP/FCIP.
Demonstrated experience handling multi‑line claims, with strong expertise in Auto Physical Damage and approximately 7–10 years of technical file handling experience, plus broad knowledge of insurance products and lines of business.
Significant leadership experience in an operational, claims, or call‑centre environment, with 5 to 7 years at a senior level.
Propensity for execution and passion for continuous improvement, having developed and implemented efficient process enhancements and led people through change.
Experience in performance management and career development of others.
Business management ability with experience translating strategy into sound technical and business processes.
Demonstrated ability to achieve results through collaborative, outcomes‑focused relationships with multiple internal and external partners.
What You’ll Get
The salary band for this position ranges from $140,000 to $180,000, determined by factors such as knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
