Coalhurst High School supports grades 7-12 and offers a broad academic program with elective courses, a strong drama program, and distance education.

Responsibilities
Establish clear objectives and outlines for courses of study following Alberta Education guidelines and communicate these objectives to students.
Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation.
Prepare instructional materials and classroom environments appropriate for activities.
Instruct using a variety of instructional approaches appropriate for grade level, student needs, and program focus.
Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time.
Assign lessons and correct homework.
Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
Create, administer, and grade a variety of student evaluative tools such as projects, tests, and assignments.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records.
Establish and enforce rules for behavior, procedures for maintaining order and safety, and enforce administrative policies.
Meet with professionals and parents/guardians to discuss student progress, resource needs, and resolve behavioral and academic issues.
Collaborate with staff to plan and schedule lessons, and participate in professional meetings, conferences, and teacher training workshops.
Prepare students for subsequent grades and encourage exploration of learning opportunities.
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet varying student needs and interests.
Implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials.
Provide assistive devices and support to special needs students as required.
Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, guest speakers, and other experiential activities.
Use computers, multimedia, and other equipment to support learning.
Organize and supervise recreational and other activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests.
Perform supervisory duties such as hall, cafeteria, playground monitoring, and bus loading/unloading.
Plan assignments for Education Assistants, Special Education, and other support staff and assist the Principal.
Perform other related tasks as assigned, including organizing materials and displaying student work.
Experience and Qualifications
Alberta Teaching Certificate.
Previous experience administering junior high school curriculum.
Successful Criminal Reference Check, including vulnerable sector check, within three months of contract start date.

Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector check from Local Police Service or RCMP detachment.
Social Insurance Number (SIN) card or document issued by Service Canada, current legal name.
Government issued ID– valid driver's license, passport or Nexus card.
