We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused
Industrial Sandblaster / Painter
to join our team. This role is primarily responsible for the surface preparation and coating of industrial piping in a controlled
shop environment , ensuring all products meet client specifications and industry quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform
abrasive blasting (sandblasting)
on pipe and pipe spools to required surface profiles and cleanliness standards (e.g., SSPC/NACE standards)
Apply
industrial coatings and linings
using various methods (spray, brush, roll) in accordance with specifications
Prepare surfaces by cleaning, masking, and inspecting prior to blasting and coating
Operate and maintain blasting and painting equipment safely and efficiently
Monitor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point) ensuring compliance with coating requirements
Inspect and measure coatings using tools such as
DFT gauges, profile gauges, and holiday detectors
Read and interpret job packages, drawings, and coating specifications
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company and OH&S regulations
Work closely with quality control personnel to meet production and inspection standards
Qualifications&Experience
Experience in
industrial sandblasting and coating , preferably in a pipe or fabrication shop
Knowledge of
surface preparation standards (SSPC, NACE)
is an asset
Familiarity with
industrial coatings systems
(epoxy, urethane, etc.)
Ability to operate blasting pots, spray pumps, and related equipment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment (lifting, standing, confined blasting areas)
Valid safety certifications (e.g., H2S Alive, CSTS, WHMIS) are considered an asset

The technician will be responsible for preparing various surfaces for protective coatings using abrasive blasting techniques. Daily tasks will include operating blasting equipment, ensuring proper surface cleanliness and adhesion, and handling materials such as abrasives and coatings. The role involves maintaining worksite safety standards, adhering to protocols, and collaborating with the team for quality execution of projects.
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years' Experience with Coatings and Abrasives, including handling materials and equipment safely and effectively.
Proficiency in Painting and Surface Preparation techniques for various industrial applications.
An understanding of Veneers and their application processes is beneficial.
Commitment to safety protocols and eagerness to undergo Training to enhance skills.
Strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work in challenging environments.
Previous experience in industrial settings and knowledge of corrosion protection methods is an asset.
Relevant certifications for abrasive blasting or surface preparation techniques are a plus.
