As a member of the military, Construction Technicians provide structural engineering support to operational units at home and abroad. Responsibilities

Construction Technicians often work across varying environments, maintaining their skills while deployed to home units, humanitarian missions, and United Nations operational assignments. If you choose a career in the Regular Force, you will be assigned to your first base after completion of all required training. The force provides some relocation flexibility; however, you may be required to move during your career. If you join the Primary Reserve Force, you work on a part‑time basis in a specific Reserve unit and are not obligated to relocate.Entry plans

No previous work experience or career‑related skills are required. The minimum required education is completion of provincial Grade 10 or Secondary 4 (or its equivalent). Training

The first stage of training is the Basic Military Qualification course, held at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School. After BMQ, Construction Technicians attend the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Gagetown for approximately 29 weeks. Training covers: Environmental skills such as defensive tactics and firearmsCare and use of common and special‑purpose tools and test equipment Application of occupational codes and regulations Interpretation of drawings and schematics Constructing/hardening structures Concrete and masonry Roofing systems Wood and steel framing Painting Construction survey Physics principlesTechnicians may subsequently develop specialized skills through formal courses and on‑the‑job training. Part‑time options

This position is available for part‑time employment with the Primary Reserve at certain locations across Canada. Reserve Force members usually serve part time with a military unit in their community, may serve while attending school or working a civilian job, and are paid during training. They are not posted or required to move butmay volunteer for deployment on a military mission.Reserve Force members are trained to the same level as Regular Force counterparts. They typically serve part time with their home unit and may qualify for 92.8 % of Regular Force rates of pay, a benefits package, and a pension plan. Related Careers
