Position at VON Canada (Ontario) Employment Status: Permanent, Part-time (0.6FTE) Program Name: In-Home Respite Number of Hours Bi-Weekly: 45 Work Schedule: Days Union/Bargaining Unit: OPSEU On Call: No Existing Vacancy: Yes– currently hiring candidates for an existing vacancy in this position.The Personal Support Worker provides personal support and homemaking services to clients and families within the framework of VON policies, procedures, and standards. The PSW collaborates with members of the health care team in meeting the needs of clients to attain an optimal level of independence and well–being.Key Responsibilities

Observe and evaluate the client’s or family’s home and care plan to determine whether changes are required and advise the supervisor accordingly. Assist in developing the personal support care plan under the direction of the Personal Support Program Manager, completing the written plan with input from the funder, manager, client, and family.Implement changes to the care plan under the manager’s guidance for safety, liability, and financial reasons. Report verbally to the supervisor or manager any changes in the client’s or family’s needs that necessitate a plan change. Perform personal support tasks tailored to the client and family, including light cleaning, meal preparation, clothing care, shopping, and monitoring household safety.Provide personal care as directed, such as assisting walking, stair navigation, bed transfers, eating, dressing, and hygiene. Provide simple bedside care when directed by a nurse. Provide respite care to clients as required. Support clients’ families by providing child care to allow family relief.Organize each day’s activities, setting priorities for personal support and other duties under manager or supervisor direction. Complete daily call checks and other required forms to maintain effective service operations. Assess the client’s communication patterns and ability to relate. Communicate with health team members about home care needs and inform supervisors of changes or concerns.Operate in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and VON policies. Follow VON risk‑management policies to promote and protect client safety. Perform other duties as assigned. Common Responsibilities

Promote VON’s goals, values, and role as an integrated community care provider. Maintain a safe, healthy workplace in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and VON Safety Management System. Follow all VON policies and work practices. Adhere to confidentiality and personal information protection policies and maintain necessary safeguards.Collaborate with other staff in a team approach to service delivery. External and Internal Relationships

Engage frequently with the immediate supervisor or Personal Support Program Manager on any required changes to client plans. Education, Designations and Experience

High school diploma. CCA Certification required in Nova Scotia. Certificate in Home Support Worker (LevelsI,II,III), Personal Support Worker program, or Health Care Aide. Current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR levelC Certificate (if applicable). Post‑secondary degree or diploma is considered an asset.Household management experience and experience working with elderly, ill individuals, or children. Skill Requirements

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Effective communication with clients and families, showing respect, empathy, and understanding. Good assessment skills. Awareness of community resources. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team or independently as needed. Good reception of direction and ability to adjust to varied social and economic environments.Capacity to maintain strict confidentiality. Additional Requirements

Access to a personal vehicle, current driver’s license, and proof of vehicle insurance. Current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check. Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required. Availability to work flexible hours. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This role requires a detail‑oriented approach in a dynamic environment with physical activity, including lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, and fine hand movements. Individuals must walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day.
