Position Summary Kelowna General Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a

Casual Switchboard Operator Clerk

to join their team in Kelowna B.C. The position works rotating days and evenings: 06:30-14:30, 07:30-13:30, 08:00-16:00, 10:00-18:00, 13:30-19:30, 14:30-22:30. Days of work: rotating. Work hours range from 0 to 37.5 per week, with shifts available on short notice or pre-scheduled to cover leaves.

Responsibilities

Process calls (internal and external) and establish communication links.

Provide information to customers and assist in relaying messages to appropriate source.

Answer emergency calls and follow established communications procedures in emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, bomb threats and disasters.

Maintain physician paging system and after‑hours physician emergency lines per established protocol.

Record and organize data to facilitate operations of the morgue, inform appropriate personnel of any unusual circumstances, and arrange transport with funeral homes as required.

Receive "On‑Call" information from physicians and update data as required; communicate changes to appropriate individuals needing current, accurate information.

Receive patient porter requests and dispatch transfers to the patient porter team.

Maintain confidentiality of classified information and keep manager informed.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12.

At least 2 years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Typing ability of 45 words per minute from a recognized institution, completed within the past 48 months (non‑supervised tests not accepted).

Ability to work a variety of shift times and be on‑call as needed.
