Laboratory Assistant Role Summary:

As a Laboratory Assistant you will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients to preparing specimens for transportation.

Schedule:

Rotating shifts: 07:00‑15:00, 07:45‑15:45, 08:00‑16:00, 09:00‑17:00

ASAP

Responsibilities

Greet and request required information from patients, explain specimen collection process, and ensure test protocol followed.

Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect Holter monitors, 24‑hour blood pressure monitoring, and ECG tracings.

Collect special tests (drug screens, paternity tests, clinical trials) and complete related documentation.

Maintain client relationships, respond to inquiries, follow up on requests.

Enter patient demographics and requisition information into data system.

Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Qualifications

Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent experience in healthcare professional roles (e.g., nurses, infusion therapists, cardiac technologists).

ECG training or experience is an asset.

Proficient data entry skills.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Maintain strict standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.

Capable of effectively relating to patients and healthcare providers.
