Job Description Mechanical Designer, Mining Location: St. Johns, NL; Brampton, Sudbury; North Bay, ON

You will work as part of the Mining team at EXP, contributing to the design and layout of mechanical components for mining projects.

Responsibilities

Serve as a working lead for a multidisciplinary design team.

Produce mechanical layouts and plant designs using MicroStation V8, E3D, AutoCAD, and other 2‑D/3‑D tools.

Extract drawings from 3‑D models.

Conduct research and analysis, recommend designs.

Troubleshoot, analyze, evaluate, propose, implement, and document engineering solutions.

Understand and consider client requirements and project mission.

Read, understand, and comment on manufacturer equipment drawings and specifications.

Check 3‑D models and drawings developed by others.

Manage budgets, schedules, and deliverables related to the layout.

Provide mentorship and supervision to the design team.

Support systems and tools including the Bentley Suite (OpenPlant Modeler, OpenPlant P&ID, etc.).

Provide regular feedback to the Overall Mechanical Engineering Lead on progress with deliverables.

Engage and coordinate design with client representatives.

Participate and assist in proposal preparations.

Become familiar with EXP standards.

Qualifications

Technical college graduate with experience in mining or a similar industry.

Minimum of 6 years of experience in heavy industrial design and layout, preferably in an EPCM environment.

Design experience in consulting or Mineral Mining projects preferred.

Strong commitment to safety and quality.

Experience with Bentley, OpenPlant, or 3‑D MicroStation.

Knowledge of project delivery, interfaces, and interdependencies across disciplines.

Organized, self‑motivated, proactive, detail‑oriented, with good communication skills.

Sound understanding of design, engineering codes, and technical standards.

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

AutoCAD and MicroStation experience required.

Extensive knowledge of engineering standards, codes, guidelines, and systems coordination.

Knowledge of mining‑related processes is a definite asset.

Salary range: $60,000– $70,000, based on skill set, experience, certifications, and work location.
