Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking an innovative individual for the position of Clinical Manager, Inpatient Addictions Medicine to provide clinical supervision and guidance to staff working on the Inpatient Addictions Medicine and Addictions Medicine Consult Service (AMCS) in a collaborative model of leadership with physician leadership. Provide operational management of the Addictions Medicine services by planning, communicating, coordinating, and evaluating activities to ensure safe, evidence-based delivery of interdisciplinary addictions care services across the RLHC site, inclusive of providing resources for consultation support to patients presenting in the Emergency Department and across all inpatient areas.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Addictions Medicine Unit (AMU) at Health Sciences North is a 19-bed inpatient service designed to support medically admitted patients who also present with substance use concerns. Our interdisciplinary team provides integrated addiction care alongside medical treatment, improving patient outcomes and engagement. We focus on stabilization, harm reduction, and discharge planning, ensuring seamless transitions by coordinating with community partners for ongoing addiction support. The AMU is a key resource for bridging acute care with long-term recovery pathways. Addiction Medicine Consult Team (AMCS) is also a consult service that sees patients while admitted to HSN.

KEY FUNCTION
Provide clinical supervision and guidance to staff on Inpatient Addictions Medicine and AMCS in a collaborative model of leadership with physician leadership.
Provide operational management of the Addictions Medicine services, planning, communicating, coordinating, and evaluating activities to ensure safe, evidence-based delivery of interdisciplinary addictions care across the RLHC site.
REPORTING
Under the general direction of the Administrative Director, Mental Health&Addictions.
DUTIES
Review daily bed demands and bed flow; collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient flow for addictions treatment needs within HSN and community programs.
Develop processes to promote early identification of treatment and discharge barriers and implement solution-focused, harm-reduction-based plans.
Collaborate with patient flow supervisors to ensure appropriate environment for medically complex addictions needs; advocate for transfers as required.
Support departmental risk management processes and ensure compliance with QCIPA and provincial privacy legislation.
Promote patient safety and ensure compliance with hospital and unit policies, OHSA, and infection control.
Establish quality-of-care processes with physician leadership, management teams, Risk Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, and Unions.
Review roles and workloads of interdisciplinary staff to balance Inpatient Addictions Medicine and AMCS.
Establish workload benchmarks and regularly review caseloads.
Maintain formal mentorship for students as required.
Monitor adherence to standards and oversee audit results.
Champion evidence-informed care and best practices.
Evaluate patient care and satisfaction and lead improvement initiatives.
Monitor program quality and effectiveness through surveys and committees.
Design and promote systems to ensure care aligns with professional standards.
Identify problems in delivery of care and facilitate multidisciplinary solutions.
Develop annual budgets and manage fiscal accountability of the department.
Manage human resources including recruitment, supervision, performance evaluation, and discipline as required.
Oversee compliance with OHSA and hospital policies; provide after-hours on-call coverage as scheduled.
Align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan and monitor outcomes.
Participate in accreditation and continuous improvement efforts.
Teach, coach, and lead inter-professional staff in quality indicators and improvement initiatives.
Foster professional development and provide learning opportunities within budget.
Ensure a safe environment; investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve program objectives and integrate services.
Engage in education and training on current safety legislation, standards, and guidelines.
Represent the department on committees and in meetings; perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Minimum of a four-year Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related field, from an accredited university.
Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with an applicable regulatory college.
Master’s Degree in a health-related discipline is preferred.
Ministry of Labour“Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of five years’ experience as a Health Professional in an Acute-Care Health facility or Addictions field.
Minimum of two years’ leadership/supervisory experience, preferably in inpatient acute care or community-based addictions.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Evidence-based addictions treatment knowledge and familiarity with services inside and outside the hospital.
Compliance with professional/ethical practices, accreditation standards, and legislation.
Time management, organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
Budget development, administration, and reporting ability.
Coaching, advising, and teaching using adult learning and harm reduction principles.
Quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
Ability to identify issues, plan improvements, and measure success.
Knowledge of legislation, management principles, committee structures, conflict resolution, and organizational assessment.
Diplomacy in working with physicians and diverse clinicians.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and patient information systems.
Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
Commitment to safety of coworkers and patients.
