Production Operator– Upstream
Shell Canada’s Groundbirch asset is located approximately 70 km southwest of Fort St. John, British Columbia. It is an upstream Montney gas field that includes roughly 500 operating wells and four gas plants. Groundbirch is a key asset supplying feed gas to LNG Canada. The Production Operator – Upstream isresponsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of oil and gas production facilities. This role ensures production targets are met while maintaining strict adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.This is a field-based role with exposure to varying weather conditions. The work schedule will be 7 days on/7 days off (12‑hour shifts) or 8 days on/6 days off (10‑hour shifts), depending on successful candidate fit, including night shifts and on‑call requirements. Accountabilities
Safe and Compliant Operations: Operate plant and field equipment in accordance with established procedures and permits Maintain full compliance with regulatory requirements such as OH&S, environmental, WHMIS, TDG Identify hazards, participate in risk assessments, and apply controls to mitigate risks Execute Emergency Response procedures when required Production Execution: Work closely with the Remote Operations Center (ROC) to monitor, control, and optimize production processes to meet volume and quality targetsPerform routine checks on wells, pipelines, compressors, separators, and processing equipment Adjust process parameters to maintain optimal production efficiency and integrity Equipment Reliability&Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections, troubleshooting, and minor maintenance Identify equipment issues early and initiate work requests for corrective action Support planned maintenance activities, shutdowns, and turnarounds Surveillance&Reporting: Record production data, field readings, and operational status accurately and in a timely manner Maintain logbooks, shift reports, and digital reporting systems Escalate abnormal conditions or equipment failures promptly Continuous Improvement: Contribute to operational excellence through participation in improvement initiativesSupport root cause analysis and implement corrective actions (PDCA mindset) Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance reliability Team Collaboration: Work closely with Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations teams Participate actively in shift handovers, tailgate talks, and safety meetingsContribute to a culture of psychological safety and inclusive teamwork Qualifications
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full‑time basis High School Diploma 4th class Power Engineer certification is a plus At least 10 years of upstream operation and/or gas plant operating experience required Experience in wellsite, gathering operations, and/or gas plant operating systemsStrong understanding of oil and gas production processes and equipment Working knowledge of safety and regulatory requirements Must be willing to work on‑call shifts, including nights and weekends, with occasional overtime Willing to work outside in inclement weather, climb ladders, walk up and down steps, and work at heightsWilling to work a rotating shift schedule and to be on call to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies Must have a driver’s license Benefits
