We are recruiting a
Systems Designer
with
Subject Matter Expert (SME)
level knowledge of security technology systems to join our
Security&Healthcare Technology
team.
This role is based remotely in Alberta, ideally Calgary or Edmonton.
Be part of a team that designs and delivers complex security systems for critical infrastructure, including police stations, hospitals, hydroelectric dams—helping keep our communities safe.
The
Systems Designer SME
designs, researches, architects solutions, tests technologies, troubleshoots, and performs system upgrades for Houle's Security Projects and Service work. Supported technologies include access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, nurse call, RTLS, and related system integrations.
We're looking for professionals with strong leadership experience in electrical technologies who are ready to make a meaningful impact. In this role, you'll contribute to major security projects across Alberta, while working in a progressive, high-performing environment that values collaboration, continuous learning, and personal growth.
This position requires up to approximately
25% travel
across Alberta, as needed, to perform system upgrades, migrations, repairs, and troubleshooting for existing clients.
Your Responsibilities
Read and interpret specifications to develop system designs for commercial and institutional projects
Collaborate with the team during estimating, RFIs, and the design phase
Create and maintain drawing packages, configuration documents, tracking spreadsheets, and related design materials
Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers, source manuals, data sheets, and technical references for design
Model and simulate system solutions in test environments
Identify appropriate technology solutions for assigned projects
Quickly learn and apply design tools in a fast paced, complex environment
Work with internal and external stakeholders to support project needs
Your Experience and Skills
Minimum 5 years' experience in security systems design, technical drawings, estimating, configuration, commissioning, and project design documentation
Formal training and hands on experience designing and programming enterprise security systems (access control, CCTV, intrusion, nurse call, RTLS) required
Proficient with MS Office 365, AutoCAD, Visio, or equivalent tools
In-depth understanding of security system protocols, networking, databases, and industry best practices
Computer networking knowledge (Cisco certification an asset)
Nurse Call system experience (Ascom certification an asset)
Strong technical troubleshooting skills
Professional, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills for both technical and non technical stakeholders
High attention to detail, accuracy, and quality
Able to work effectively under pressure in a fast changing environment
Able to travel up to 25%
