Hemlock Utility Services provides water, wastewater, and hydroelectric services to the Hemlock Valley and Sasquatch Mountain Resort community. Operating in a remote mountain environment, the utility supports essential services that protect public health, infrastructure, and community growth.
The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced
Civil Pipe Layer for a 5-month seasonal term position , with the potential to transition into a year-round role, to support the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground utility infrastructure.
The successful candidate must be capable of working independently, maintaining workmanship and safety standards, communicating effectively with management and crew members, taking ownership of their work, and supporting efficient field operations with limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations
Install water, wastewater, conduit, and related underground infrastructure in accordance with plans and standards.
Set and confirm pipe grade, alignment, and elevation
Prepare trenches, bedding, and backfill to required standards
Install valves, hydrants, services, and associated fittings
Work closely with Equipment Operators to guide excavation and placement
Confirm trench conditions, clearances, and safety prior to installation
Inspect installed work prior to backfill to ensure quality and compliance
Identify, verify, and report deficiencies or issues immediately
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe worksite
Follow all safety procedures and operational requirements
Support emergency repairs, maintenance activities, and utility operations as required.
Qualifications
Proven experience in civil pipe laying or underground utility construction
Strong understanding of trenching, bedding, and compaction practices
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and grades
Experience with water, wastewater, and electrical systems is considered an asset
Experience working around active utility infrastructure and live services is considered an asset
Experience operating small equipment or working alongside excavation crews is considered an asset
Confined Space Entry certification is considered an asset
Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
Ability to work safely and effectively in remote mountain conditions
Working Conditions
Outdoor work in all weather conditions
Physically demanding role including heavy lifting and manual labour
Exposure to excavation sites, heavy equipment, and underground utilities
Participation in on-call rotation for emergency response

$30– $38 per hour based on experience
