Position Purpose
The Thrift Store Clerk provides service to customers, sorts incoming product and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Thrift Store. Accountabilities&Operations
Interact with customers/donors in a positive, friendly, and courteous manner. Protect the integrity of all donated items. Accurately complete all customer transactions, including cash and debit sales. Contribute to meeting store budgets by maintaining customer service standards. Open and close the store following procedures when required.Process raw materials: load/unload, sort, pack, price and store donations. Use knowledge of stock to respond to customer enquiries by phone or in person. Pay particular attention to store security by monitoring activity within the store. Handle merchandise in a safe and organized manner; assist in stock rotation.Contribute to inventory control by receiving, sorting, and pricing as directed. Assist with store layout plans to attract customers, including window displays and merchandise displays; ensure attractiveness of the store through tidy maintenance. Replenish inventory levels based on supervisor’s directions.Remove inventory from sales floor as directed. Maintain proper sorting and processing of all donated goods, ensuring compliance with quality standards. Maintain an attractive organized appearance of the store, tidy up and restock shelves, clean, sweep, dust and mop as necessary. Abide by store policy and procedures.Perform other position related duties as required. Financial&Materials Management
Handle cash and debit sales. Assist with the materials management of donations/product flow in the thrift store. Working Conditions
Schedule may vary from week to week and include weekdays and Saturdays; flexibility in scheduling is required. Includes a½ hour unpaid meal‑break where applicable. Ability to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching and reaching is required. Ability to lift/move up to 30 pounds.The supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule. Education, Qualifications&Certifications
Completion of secondary school. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered. Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience. Cash handling experience is required. Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine and/or credit card processing is an asset.Skills&Capabilities
Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications for position responsibilities. Maintain information in confidence as required. Participate as an active and responsible team member, including mandatory orientation training and regular supervision and performance appraisal process.Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner. Comply with all Salvation Army policies and procedures and associated legislation. Show awareness of brand and mission. Exhibit good listening skills, strong oral and written communication, respect authority, and be self‑motivated/disciplined.Work in a cooperative team‑oriented atmosphere. Provide an original copy of a satisfactory background check from the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or local police detachment, including screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry if required. The target hiring range for this position is $17.00 to $18.08 with a maximum of $21.69. Placement in the salary range will be based on market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role. Accommodation
