Working within the Infrastructure Services Division, there are multiple openings within Parks, Horticulture and Cemetery Operations. These positions are available from June 1, 2026 to September 4, 2026. What you will be doing
Parks/Sports field Maintenance Student Performs general grounds and building maintenance including cutting and trimming grass, weeding garden beds,rakingand blowing leaves, tree and hedge pruning, and litter picking.Assistingin the Integrated Pest Management Program (IPM) where pesticides are not an option to strengthen and enhance natural grass sports fields.Additionalrelated duties may be assigned, depending on the area of work including, but not limited to playgroundmaintenance, playing fieldmaintenance,etc.Cemetery Maintenance Student Performs general grounds and building maintenance including cutting and trimming grass, planting and weeding garden beds, raking and blowing leaves, tree and hedge pruning, and litter picking. Cemetery students will operate a variety of hand and power tools, as well as some light equipment such as RTVs and Pickup trucks. Other maintenance responsibilities may include monument inspections, assisting with burials and other seasonal projects such as installing monument foundations.Horticulture Maintenance Student Perform horticulture duties such as maintenance of citywide garden features that include the preparation and planting of annuals, maintenance of trees, perennials and shrubs, as well as the watering, pruning, fertilizing, cultivating, weeding and mulching of beds and gardens to enhance horticultural areas within parks, road allowance&traffic medians throughout the city. Assist with greenhouse operations and the growing and maintenance of various plants. Grass cutting/trimming, vegetation control, maintenance and landscaping citywide within the right-of-way, at trailheads, and horticulture features. Education
Actively pursuing a college diploma or university degree Experience and Knowledge
Basic aptitude with power and hand tools such as trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, push mower, shovels rakes etc. Basic understanding of plant, lawn and tree care. Experience with routine equipment checks, such as inspecting fuel/oil levels, or identifying minor mechanical issues. Customer service or public-facing experience considered an asset.Skills you will rely on
Strong attention to detail (e.g. uniform turf cutting, tidy work areas, routine equipment checks). Reliability and punctuality– ability to follow a structured routine. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Communication skills to effectively interact with residents of Cambridge and to report issues or safety concerns to team leaders.We will ask you for these items if you are hired
Current and valid Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check to be provided prior to commencement in this position. Proof of current or future enrolment in post‑secondary education. Valid G2 or G class driver's license. Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training Certificate from the Ministry of LabourRate of pay
$18.37 (2026 rates) per hour for a student’s first summer work term as a Student Outside Worker with the City of Cambridge. Hours of work
Eight hours per day, five days per week for a 40‑hour work week, weekends or evenings may be required. Hours are as scheduled by the supervisor and based on departmental requirements.
