We are looking for three Building Mechanical Designers who are excited about working on projects that enable the heart of our clients’ business.
Role Overview As a Building Mechanical Designer at Jacobs, you’ll be at the cutting edge of our efforts to bring innovation and excellence to some of the most exciting infrastructure projects in the region. You’ll use your exceptional design and analytical skills to lead the planning and design of mechanical (plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection) systems primarily for municipal facilities for water and wastewater projects, but you’ll also contribute to other municipal, industrial, and institutional projects.
You’ll be accountable for the schedule and technical quality of challenging engineering tasks, as you gain familiarity with the client’s expectations, scope, budget, and schedule. You’ll also provide on-site assistance during startup, coordinating work activities with other staff members and thediscipline lead. Your multi-discipline, highly interactive team will successfully deliver on the design, development, application, evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered systems and products for building HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Systems.
Responsibilities
Designing and drafting plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection systems.
Preparing mechanical drawing deliverables.
Preparing deliverables such as load calculations, specifications, equipment selections, and cost estimates related to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.
Coordinating with other disciplines.
Performing field investigation for incorporation of existing conditions into construction documents.
Drafting assignments utilizing CAD or 3d modeling software; preparation of plans, sections, elevations, details, and construction documents for review and approval.
Participating in the Quality Review process with the responsible Engineer and Lead Verifier.
Assisting with construction administration duties such as shop drawing review, RFI response, construction inspection, and responding to client questions.
Working within a project team environment and possessing good communication skills.
Coordinating and helping establish design criteria in accordance with industry standards in conjunction with Lead Engineers.
Reporting to Lead Engineer at the project level and to discipline coordinator and discipline manager at the discipline level.
Required Qualifications
Technical Diploma in Mechanical Systems Design with 5 years experience in building mechanical systems, or High School Diploma + 7 years experience.
Experience in a wide variety of HVAC systems, plumbing, fire protection, load calculations, and all other building systems.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
Experience in multi-disciplinary projects related to buildings and infrastructure market segments.
Ability to read multi-disciplinary plans.
Self-starter and can work with minimum supervision.
Excellent comprehension of verbal and written English.
Self-motivated and a team player.
Familiarity with local provincial&National Building Code/Energy Code/Plumbing Code/Fire Code, ASHRAE, NFPA, and SMACNA.
Experience with following and implementing client CAD/BIM Standards.
Preferred Qualifications
AScT, PTech, or CET designation.
Professional and timely communication to internal team members and external stakeholders.
Delivers on promises to project team members, consultants, and clients.
Experience in using Revit for modeling, and Navisworks and BIM 360 for model and clash coordination; experience with Bentley Microstation is considered an asset.
At least 8+ years of relevant experience doing mechanical design work on institutional, commercial, light industrial, or municipal buildings (or equivalent). Experience with water and wastewater facilities is an asset.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience with Carrier’s HAP and McQuay “Ductsizer” programs.
Experience with energy modeling software such as Trane“TRACE 700”, “eQuest” and “DOE-2” is considered an asset.
Experience using Microsoft Office tools including Teams, Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint.
Valid driver's license.
