Description
We are seeking a highly motivated
Mechanical Engineer
to support the design, development, and validation of
HVAC systems for off‑highway and transport applications . This role requires expertise in mechanical design, thermodynamics and heat transfer, as well as practical knowledge of metal fabrication and CNC programming. The ideal candidate will be experienced in integrating HVAC systems into Off‑Highway vehicles, rail,or specialty mobile platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical design and development of HVAC systems for off‑highway transport vehicles, buses, trucks, and other specialty mobile platforms, using SolidWorks for 3D design.
Supporting the assembly team, troubleshooting issues and ensuring design intent is achieved.
Oversee system architecture, component selection, and performance validation to meet thermal and energy efficiency targets.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (sales, service, manufacturing) to ensure seamless integration and manufacturability.
Experience conducting heat load calculations, airflow modeling, and system optimization for various operating conditions is a strong asset.
Basic understanding of Hydraulic circuitry is a strong asset.
Experience designing wire harnesses and electrical schematics to ensure optimal manufacturability, serviceability and documentation is a strong asset.
Create project documentation (Installation, Hose, Wiring and Maintenance manuals).
Perform design reviews, DFMEAs, and ensure compliance with industry standards (ASHRAE).
Support prototype builds, lab testing, and field validation to confirm system performance and durability.
Provide guidance on metal fabrication techniques and CNC programming to ensure designs are economically manufacturable and serviceable.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product robustness, cost efficiency, and reliability.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
Minimum 3+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering (HVAC design or thermal systems development is a strong asset).
Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, refrigeration cycles, and airflow systems.
Hands‑on understanding of metal fabrication processes and CNC programming is a strong asset.
Experience working in ISO‑certified environments is highly desirable.
Proficiency with SolidWorks (3D CAD) and Draftsite (2D CAD).
Familiarity with automotive or heavy‑duty standards is an asset.
Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and organizational skills.
