This role focuses on detailed mechanical design, CAD modeling, and documentation, along with practical knowledge of metal fabrication and CNC programming. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting the integration of HVAC systems into off‑highway vehicles, rail, or specialty mobile platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings of HVAC systems using SolidWorks based on engineering requirements and design concepts
Support the design and development of HVAC systems for off‑highway transport vehicles, buses, trucks, and other specialty mobile platforms
Work closely with engineering to implement system architecture, component selection, and design updates
Support the assembly team by troubleshooting design‑related issues and ensuring design intent is achieved
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (sales, service, manufacturing) to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and serviceable
Assist with heat load considerations, airflow layouts, and system optimization under guidance from engineering
Assist in the design of wire harnesses and electrical schematics to support manufacturability and documentation
Prepare and maintain project documentation (installation, hose routing, wiring, and maintenance manuals)
Participate in design reviews and support DFMEA activities and compliance with industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE)
Support prototype builds, lab testing, and field validation activities
Incorporate best practices for metal fabrication and CNC programming into designs to ensure cost‑effective manufacturing
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, reliability, and cost efficiency
Qualifications
Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology (or related field)
3+ years of experience in mechanical design or drafting (HVAC or thermal systems is a strong asset)
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (3D CAD) and DraftSight (2D CAD)
Practical understanding of metal fabrication processes; CNC programming experience is an asset
Familiarity with thermodynamics, refrigeration cycles, and airflow systems is an asset
Experience working in ISO‑certified environments is desirable
Familiarity with automotive, heavy‑duty, or off‑highway standards is an asset
Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem‑solving skill
