HDR is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer. The successful candidate will be involved in project coordination, design management, financial and schedule monitoring, stakeholder engagement and negotiations, quality management, and will work closely with a multi‑disciplinary team to create high‑quality design solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
Act as a transportation engineer as needed, including preparing road alignments, cross‑sections, active transportation design, grading models, drainage designs, storm sewer network layouts, quantity estimates, cost estimates, project documentation, and specifications
Coordinate designs with the rest of the multidisciplinary team including structural, traffic, pavement, environmental, stormwater management, electrical, etc.
Assist the Project Manager in the day‑to‑day coordination of projects
Support engagement externally and negotiation with key project stakeholders and clients
Prepare work plans and schedules in coordination with project managers and other disciplines
Assist in pursuit of opportunities and preparation of proposals (content generation, schedule, and fee estimates)

Preferred Qualifications
A Minimum of 7 years’ experience in highway and/or municipal roadway design engineering
Familiarity with road design practices including application of design standards, TAC Geometric Design Guide, various provincial and municipal standards, and preparing contracts (documents and drawings)
Experience engaging and negotiating with external project stakeholders and clients
Strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving, and collaboration skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience with municipal and provincial clients in Ontario (MTO, Halton Region, City of Mississauga, City of Brampton, City of Toronto, and York Region)
Experience with Freeway and Interchange Design
Experience with Municipal Design
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Previous experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license).
Hands‑on experience with Highways and Roads CAD engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation and Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d
MS Office knowledge
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Experience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
