Position Summary Under the supervision of the Radiologist, the technologist is responsible for choosing proper scan protocols for the ordered examination, operating the CT equipment with minimal radiation exposure to the patient, evaluating patient chart for possible allergies or contradictions to IV contrast prior to administration, assisting the Radiologist in invasive procedures, properly sending all examinations to the PACs in a timely fashion for the Radiologist to interpret, maintaining supplies and emergency equipment for the department, performing jobs in all patient care and operational areas subject to reasonable accommodations, employing all mandatory safety devices and procedures, and participating in the Respiratory Protection Program, which may include wearing a respirator.

This is a union position.

Essential Job Functions

Prepares room, equipment, materials as needed for patients

Cleans and disinfects CT equipment

Prepares contrast medium for power injection

Prepares patients for CT exam; explains procedures, transfers patients to table, positions the patient and assists patient at end of procedures.

Assists the Radiologist with invasive and non-invasive procedures

Follows prescribed techniques in administering radiation to patients

Adheres to age‑specific policy for minimal radiation exposure to patients

Processes images in Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS)

Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports unusual occurrences to Radiologist and nurse

Maintains stock supplies and performs general office duties

Transports patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support department areas as directed ensuring patient safety and comfort

FTE 0.5 - 8 HOUR SHIFTS

Qualifications Education: Completion of Radiologic Health Sciences of California program.

Experience: Preferred but not required.

Licenses/Certificates

CRT required

ARRT (R) required

ARRT (CT) certification preferred

Fluoroscopy Permit required within 6 months of hire/transfer [for incumbent technologists must obtain by December 31, 2015]

Current BLS Certification through AHA required

Certificate from Image Wisely/ Image Gently campaign within 30 days of hire/transfer; annually thereafter
