Job Summary Department of Transportation and Infrastructure– Highway Regional Operations, Western Region, Transportation Operations
Position: Highway Construction Inspector (EA3 Engineering Aid 3)
Location(s): Birtle, MB; Boissevain, MB; Portage la Prairie, MB; Brandon, MB
Salary: EA3 $56,849– $69,266 per year
Closing Date: May 24, 2026

Duties The incumbent will perform responsible technical and engineering related work, exercising independence of action while adhering to department standards, specifications, policies, procedures, and sound survey practices. Responsibilities include:
Road Inspector
Plant (asphalt/concrete) Inspector
Winter Road Inspector
Instrument Person
Senior Density Inspector
Regional Engineering Assistant

Qualifications
Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or completion of Department Level 2 training courses by May 1, 2026
Experience in roadway construction (grade, base, asphalt, and/or concrete paving projects)
Ability to work in a team and independently
Effective time management and organizational skills
Knowledge of construction specifications, procedures and guidelines
Knowledge of Occupational, Safety, Health&Risk Management policies and procedures
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Good interpersonal and courteous communication skills
Clear written communication skills for field notes, reports, etc.
Ability to provide on‑the‑job training and technical guidance
Conditions of Employment
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must possess a valid Manitoba Class 5F driver’s licence or equivalent from another jurisdiction
Must be able to travel within the province by air or land in day and night conditions
Must be willing to work extended hours, irregular hours, weekends/evenings, and overnight stays, possibly in a camp or hotel
Must be physically capable of prolonged sitting, medium lifting (up to 25 lbs), walking on uneven surfaces, and wearing PPE in both outdoor and indoor conditions
