Position Summary The primary role of the Manager, Laboratory Medicine, is to provide operational, technical, and functional leadership support to the Director, Laboratory Medicine and MDRD to ensure continuity, stability, and effective day‑to‑day delivery of laboratory services in keeping with the vision, mission and values of GGH. In collaboration with the Director, the Manager implements initiatives that align with departmental goals and ensures effective day-to-day operations, resource utilization, scheduling, strengthening employee engagement and performance, operational workflows and quality management.

The Manager models professional and organizational core competencies and fosters a culture of safety, equity, and continuous improvement. The Manager acts as the primary designate for the Director, Department of Laboratory Medicine and MDRD and works in close collaboration with the Medical Director on matters related to clinical service delivery, utilization and physician engagement.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities

Bachelor’s degree in a health-related discipline and a minimum 6 years of relevant laboratory experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)

3–5 years of progressive leadership/management experience

Member in good standing with CMLTO

Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and team/relationship-building skills

Knowledge of hospital information systems and MSOffice applications

Experience with Lean process improvement methodologies, change management and quality improvement/assurance

Accreditation experience supporting accreditation process and regulatory compliance in a hospital laboratory environment

Experience with Operational Leadership&Administration

Experience with performance development of staff

Effective judgment and decision-making skills, consistent with the profession’s standards of practice.

Experience and training in Equity, Diversity&Inclusion

Effective organizational and time management skills

Demonstrated ability to manage resources

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team in fast paced and ever-changing environment

Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
