General Purpose The School of Continuing Studies at the University of Guelph delivers and supports a range of in‑demand and on‑trend non‑degree programming to serve the current and emerging needs of our internal and external communities, industries and partners. Through our programmes and services, we share the expertise of the University of Guelph beyond the University’s boundaries to help build healthy, thriving and sustainable communities in the rapidly evolving context of our region. We are a revenue‑generating enterprise within the University.Within the School of Continuing Studies, English Language Communication and Culture (ELCC) encompass the English Language Certificate program (ELCP), Business English Program, customised language programmes, and ELCC Guaranteed Admission Pathway (GAP). Our programmes and pathways are designed to help English language learners from the low intermediate to advanced level succeed in their development and meet English proficiency requirements for entry to degree programmes at the University of Guelph.

Duties and Responsibilities Reporting to the Program Manager, English Language Communication and Culture, the English Language Instructor is responsible for providing English language instruction to ELCC students. This includes:

Developing class instruction based on programme curricula and learning outcomes;

Delivering engaging lessons, learning experiences and assessments;

Creating a supportive classroom environment for student learning;

Ongoing evaluation of student progress and providing timely feedback to support their continued development;

Providing feedback to the ELCC Program Manager and Curriculum Coordinator to support the continuous improvement of ELCC programming.

Requirements

Undergraduate degree and TESL Canada Level 1 Professional certification or equivalent (required). A Master’s degree in applied linguistics or education with a specialization in TESL is preferred.

At least 2 years of experience in English language instruction in a higher education setting.

Demonstrated experience teaching academic English skills to students from diverse cultural backgrounds at all levels of English language proficiency.

Ability to create engaging and interactive lessons consistent with the ELCC instructor guidelines.

Excellent communication skills, problem‑solving skills and flexibility are essential.

Excellent time management and organisational skills.

Proficiency in standard computer programmes, including the Microsoft 365 suite (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint).

Experience teaching with an LMS (preferably D2L Brightspace) in a hybrid learning environment.

Demonstrated experience working as a team member with a positive attitude.
