About The Role We are seeking a
Principal Staff Engineer
to play a pivotal role in shaping the architecture and scalability of our global Time Platform. This platform powers some of the most heavily trafficked and mission‑critical systems in the organization, enabling businesses worldwide to effectively manage their workforce. With some of the highest request volumes across the company, this domain sits at the forefront of infrastructure innovation, resilience, and product excellence.
In this role, you will act as both a
technical leader and hands‑on architect , responsible for setting direction, influencing strategy, and delivering solutions that impact millions of users. You will guide end‑to‑end execution, from early design through production operations, ensuring that our systems are highly reliable, extensible, and performant at scale. As a principal‑level leader, you will mentor senior engineers, partner with cross‑functional stakeholders, and define the technical vision for a fast‑growing, high‑impact product suite.
What You’ll Do
Architect and Scale Core Systems: Design and evolve large‑scale distributed systems with a focus on availability, fault tolerance, and performance across high‑throughput services.
Drive Engineering Excellence: Establish standards, frameworks, and best practices that raise the bar for code quality, reliability, and developer productivity.
Provide Strategic Technical Leadership: Shape long‑term architectural roadmaps and influence product strategy in collaboration with product, design, and business leaders.
Mentor and Grow Talent: Guide and develop engineers at all levels, including senior contributors, while fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
Hands‑On Problem Solving: Contribute to codebases and deep‑dive into complex issues when necessary, balancing leadership with technical execution.
Operational Ownership: Champion observability, incident management, and continuous improvement to maintain world‑class reliability and customer trust.
Shape Team Culture: As a senior leader, play a defining role in how the team operates, collaborates, and executes in a rapidly scaling environment.
What We’re Looking For
Extensive Experience: 10+ years of building and scaling distributed, service‑oriented systems in production environments, with mastery in Python, Golang, or Java.
Architectural Depth: Demonstrated ability to design clean abstractions and robust systems that endure scale and complexity.
Breadth of Knowledge: Strong background in algorithms, systems design, and computer science fundamentals; experience with modern frontend technologies (React/JavaScript) is a plus.
Product and User Focused: Proven track record of delivering impactful solutions that prioritize usability and business outcomes.
Influential Leadership: History of driving cross‑functional alignment, mentoring senior engineers, and establishing engineering‑wide best practices.
Entrepreneurial Mindset: Comfortable navigating ambiguity, identifying opportunities, and creating scalable solutions with lasting impact.
